The second phase of new SMS regulations in India has been implemented on the 8th of March 2021. The operators are live with content scrubbing and messages that do not match templates already approved in DLT are been blocked by them.
These regulations have been implemented to improvise the end-users experience and eliminate spam commercial communication.
Below mentioned is the detailed guideline for the DLT registration process as per the new DLT updates.
Complete guide of DLT Registration Process
Step 1 – Get Entity ID
- Register on any of the DLT Platforms by providing required information and documents.
- Jio DLT (https://trueconnect.jio.com) – Free Registration. View Jio DLT registration guide.
- Videocon DLT (https://smartping.live/entity/register-with) – Free Registration, you can leave the payment details blank.
- Vodafone Idea Ltd DLT (https://www.vilpower.in/) – View VILPOWER registration guide.
- BSNL DLT (https://www.ucc-bsnl.co.in/) – View BSNL registration guide.
- After receiving the Entity or Registration ID, add it to your text local account.
- Log in to your Textlocal account – Settings – Your profile – Entity ID/ Registration ID.
Step 2 – Register your Sender ID (Headers)
- Add your Sender ID or Headers in the Headers Tab on your Dashboard.
- Once your Sender ID is approved, take a screenshot of your DLT account which displays the approved headers.

Other options should be chosen for the SMS such as OTP’s, Alerts, etc. Here you have to add your 6 character alpha headers in the text box. Justify the chosen headers in the description box by attaching supporting documents.
- Promotional
The Promotional option should be chosen for the SMS such as offers, discounts, etc. Here you have to add your 6 digits numeric sender ID, in Find your header section. Select your Industry type from the drop-down and justify your chosen headers.
Step 3 – Add Telemarketer ID
- After registering your headers add telemarketers on DLT platforms.
- Jio DLT Platform > select “Campaign” – In that telemarketers – Manage Telemarketers – Search for Telemarketers ID “0123456xxxxx” – Drag it to the right-hand side and click on “Apply”.
- Videocon DLT Platform > select “Telemarketer request” and enter Telemarketing ID “0123456xxxxx” – Click on view details and check the check box. And later click on “Submit”.
- VILPOWER & BSNL DLT Platform > select “Telemarketing” – Click on Add – Type IMI Mobile. In the “Select your Telemarketer” text box – check for the drop-down to appear – Add “0123456xxxxx” and Click “Add”.
Step 4 – Template Registration on DLT Platforms
For Jio DLT Platform
- Select “Template” – Content Template Registration
- Select the template type of communication – promotional/ transactional/ service inferred.
- Choose the template type.
- Select a category from the drop-down list.
- Select Consent ID
- Search and select the headers that you want to use along with this template.
- Add template content in the template content text box.
For VIdeocon DLT Platform
- Select the template – Add new templates
- Add a name to the template
- Choose communication type
- Select the template type of communication – promotional/ transactional/ service inferred/ Transactional.
- Select Consent template from the drop-down list.
- Select content category
- Search and select the headers that you want to use along with this template.
- Add template content in the template content text box – get the OTP & Submit.
For VILPOWER & BSNL DLT Platforms
- Select template – Content type – Add
- Choose the template type – promotional/ transactional/ service inferred/ transactional.
- Select the category
- Search and select the headers that you want to use as a template.
- Select Consent template from the drop-down list.
- Add the template name and select the message.
- Add template content and click on “Save”.
Step 5 – Add templates in Textlocal
- Log in to Textlocal UI Portal with the help of a registered mail ID and password.
- Select “Templates & Drafts” under the “Send” tab.
- Click on “Request new template”.
- Once you get the New message template page.
- Add the registered DLT template & title.
- Select the category, Sender ID associated with the templates and their language.
- The regional language template will be known as Unicode templates.
- Copy and paste the DLT approved content.
- Replace the variables in the DLT template.
- Click on “Request new template”.
- Once it is approved, the template message can be used.
Key Highlights
- As per the customer’s feedback, JIO & Videocon has easier steps for registration.
- The headers or sender names can vary when it is capital and when it is in small letters. For eg – if the sender name is FGTYUI (Capital letters) and when the sender name is fgtyui (Small letters) are considered as two different sender names.
- The header or sender name should match your firm name.
- New TRAI rules and regulations have been made compulsory by the telecom operator, and no text local can do anything to push that back. Without the approvals for the sender names, your SMS will be blocked.
- SMS Providers don’t have any control over the changed regulations.
